File a Complaint

Report Abuse or Neglect

Incidents of abuse or neglect should be reported directly to the Department of Social Services.

All Other Complaints

Complaints about services being provided to a child by a state agency may be filed to the Department of Children's Advocacy in one of three ways:

  1. Fill out the Online Complaint Form. This is the preferred method, as it helps to ensure the IU has all the necessary information to begin addressing your concerns.
  2. Email info@childadvocate.sc.gov.
  3. Call 1-800-206-1957. If no one is available to answer, please leave a message, and your call will be returned within one business day.

PLEASE NOTE: Before filing a complaint, we encourage you to visit our FAQ page to learn more about what kinds of complaints the Investigations Unit handles, what you can expect when you file a complaint, and more.

Education and Resources

The IU has helped create a Resource Library to help the public know where to turn, should they need access to services provided to children and families.
